DESCRIPTION:Emceed by local spoken word artist Manon Voice\, celebrate the kick-off of the 26th annual Spirit & Place Festival with a newly commissioned piano piece by jazz pianist Christopher Pitts. \nThis year’s opening night virtual event invites you to learn about the CHANGE theme and the exciting array of events\, exhibits\, performances\, films\, and more happening from November 5-14. From the comfort of your home\, sit back and enjoy live interviews\, recorded performances\, and more as we get ready for the 2021 Spirit & Place Festival! \nThanks to the Indiana Arts Commission\, which receives support from the State of Indiana and the National Endowment for the Arts\, this event will feature Manon Voice as emcee and a newly commission solo piano piece by Christopher Pitts. \nDid you know Spirit & Place was the recipient of an Indiana Arts Commission grant last year that allowed us to commission a 25th anniversary poem by Manon Voice? DESCRIPTION:Powerful Conversations on Race (PCR) is a monthly community dialogue series — with two tracks — exploring topics around race\, racism\, and the resulting impact. These sessions provide a means of getting comfortable talking about uncomfortable topics are are rooted in humanities- and art-based materials and sources. \nThis IS NOT a lecture or book club\, but rather a space for community to come together and dive deeply into a variety of topics concerning race. Active participation is expected. \nPCR 101 sessions are great starting place for those new to these kinds of dialogues and/or those wishing to more fully understand America’s complex racial history. Race & . . . sessions explore more contemporary issues are are designed for those who wish to continue past PCR 101. \nLearn more on the Powerful Conversations on Race main page. \nOctober’s sessions will focus on: \n\nPCR 101: Religious Life\, Spirituality\, and Racial Identity\nRace & . . .
