SUMMARY:Coming Through to the Other Side: Changes in Schools and Communities COVID & Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Join a team of educators and families to consider what equity and inclusion means for schools and communities as they emerge from the COVID-19 global pandemic. \nUsing the Mmogo method – an indigenous gathering method from South Africa that uses visuals and artifacts to anchor dialogue – attendees are invited to consider the experiences and stories of educators and parents/guardians affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This conversation aims to help the community recognize the ways in which varying school and home situations have shaped the pandemic experience and how we all might do a better job at addressing inequities in the educational system. \nA partnership between Digital Education Hub at the IU School of Education at IUPUI\, Digital Education Hub Community Caucus\, and Digital Education Hub Teacher Network. \nQuestions? Contact 317-274-6818 or dehub@iupui.edu. \nThis event be conducted via Zoom. Register by Nov. 11. \n \nThis event is part of the Spirit & Place Festival. SUMMARY:The Moral of Our Stories: Personal Ethics in the Work of Social Change
DESCRIPTION:Three local community activists—Phyllis Boyd\, Elizabeth Wallin\, and Andy Beck—talk with community member Martin Coleman about maintaining a moral vision when working for social change challenges the ideals motivating that very work. \nWhen our ideals lead us to unlikely alliances\, opportunities laden with unintended consequences\, or interpersonal conflict\, how does our understanding of our moral vision change? This event considers the dynamic and precarious interaction between individual integrity and working for social change. Assuming that individual ethical growth and social justice work cannot be separated\, panelists – and the audience – will be invited to reflect on how their personal integrity has been challenged by their social responsibilities. This event suggests that understanding what changes in ourselves when we work for social change can make our moral vision more inclusive and beneficial change more likely. \nA partnership between Homes for All Indy/Kheprw Institute\, Project Lia\, and Groundwork Indy. \nQuestions? Contact 317-409-1577 or martcole@iupui.edu. \nThis event is currently scheduled to occur in-person. Register by Nov. 10 and note this event will adhere to prevailing local guidance on COVID-19. Thoroughly read confirmation details sent by the host. \nPhoto by Ian Schneider on Unsplash \n \nThis event is part of the Spirit & Place Festival.
