SUMMARY:Forest Bathing to Nourish the Mind\, Body\, & Soul
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT. Please contact event organizers to inquire about a waitlist.\n \nASL Upon Request by Oct. 27.  \nEnjoy a 60-minute guided walk through Crown Hill Cemetery’s Arboretum that will nourish an appreciation for the benefits of nature. \n“Forest bathing” promotes interaction between humans and wooded spaces\, which is deeply needed in a culture that too often sees nature as a commodity to be bought\, sold\, transformed\, and used. Studies have shown the health benefits of being in nature – it can lower blood pressure\, calm heart rates\, and reduce levels of harmful hormones all while helping individuals form stronger connections to their communities. Led by a guide certified by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs\, this event invites you to listen to nature\, savor the sounds and smells of the outdoors\, and be mindful of the ways nature can nourish the mind\, body\, and soul. \nQuestions? Contact 317-920-2644 or jrdinius@crownhill.org. \nEvent Partners: Crown Hill Heritage Foundation\, Indiana DNR—Division of Forestry\, and Wanderwood Studio. \nEvent Registration: Due limited space\, registration is required. Walk-in guests cannot be accommodated.

SUMMARY:Nature & Ritual: Celebrating the Natural World while Grieving Ecological Losses
DESCRIPTION:Limited capacity. Registration required.\n \nMany of us feel alone in our ecological grief. Let’s take a guided\, multi-sensory forest therapy walk\, culminating in a community art ritual that celebrates the natural world while also acknowledging the ongoing loss of its landscapes and species. \nLed by author Dheepa Maturi (108: An Eco-Thriller) and certified forest therapy practitioner Paula Goldberg\, this guided walk at Holliday Park incorporates poetry\, prose\, and multi-sensory observation to culminate in the creation of a collaborative mandala made from natural materials. Participants contribute meaningfully to the mandala\, which will later return to the earth\, symbolizing the cycle of nature. The event incorporates philosophy\, literature\, and cross-cultural spiritual practices to reflect on ecological grief\, the power of ritual\, and our shared responsibility as stewards of the land. Small-group sharing and guided prompts support personal reflection and offer tools for designing individual nature rituals to carry forward beyond the event. \nDate & Time Note: Saturday\, Nov. 8 is the Monumental Marathon (see route map). Getting west of the river to Holliday Park may take a little extra time. Plan accordingly! (2024 Road Closure Map. We’ll post the 2025 map when it is ready.) \nQuestions? Contact 317-274-2462 or info@DheepaRMaturi.com. \nEvent Organizers: A partnership between author Dheepa R. Maturi\, forest therapy practitioner Paula Goldberg\, artist and ethnobotanist Shamira Wilson\, and Holliday Park. \nRegistration: Click here to register. \nAutumn leaves\, laid out in the shape of heart\, heart symbol

SUMMARY:Nature Journaling
DESCRIPTION:Outdoor Experience – 3 opportunities at 3 unique venues!\nRegistration required. \nSlow down\, observe\, and reconnect with nature\, yourself\, and others. In this guided exercise\, you’ll explore the outdoors with a journal in hand\, using words\, pictures\, and numbers to capture your experience and reflect on the wonders of the natural world. \nAnyone can journal! Nature journaling is a powerful way to deepen your connection with the natural world. It blends art\, science\, and mindfulness by encouraging you to observe closely and record what you see\, hear\, and feel using words\, pictures\, and numbers. We’ll begin with a 30-minute indoor* introduction to the practice of nature journaling\, including simple drawing techniques and writing prompts designed to spark curiosity and insight. Then\, participants will head outside to explore and journal in a nearby natural space for approximately 90 minutes. The workshop will close with time to share reflections and pages from our journals with one another. \nIdeal for adults and families with older children and teens. No previous art or writing experience is necessary. \n*NOTES:\nThe Broad Ripple Family Center will be closed in observance of Veteran’s Day. SUMMARY:Youth Rising for Nature: Getting Community in Action through Service & Advocacy
DESCRIPTION:Community Forum & River Clean Up. Attend one or both gatherings. \nJoin Sea Scope’s youth Eco-Warriors for a two-part event exploring environmental justice\, community dialogue\, and a Fall Creek cleanup. Facilitated by local experts and inspired by Laudato Si\, this experience blends spiritual reflection and action. Connect with neighbors of Martindale-Brightwood and our living earth—come for one or both days! \nThis two-part experience (attending both Saturdays is optional) connects storytelling\, faith\, Martindale-Brightwood neighbors\, and environmental action. The first session features an expert and youth-led community forum exploring local ecological challenges and reflections inspired by Laudato Si’ – a 2015 papal encyclical focused on environmental stewardship\, climate change\, and ecological responsibility\, emphasizing the moral and spiritual dimensions of caring for the Earth. A week later\, participants engage in a hands-on cleanup along Fall Creek restoring natural spaces in disinvested communities while learning how local actions connect to global environmental issues. Through dialogue\, reflection\, and collective action\, attendees will deepen their understanding of stewardship\, equity\, and the sacred responsibility to care for our shared planet. \nQuestions? Contact 317-203-9397 or seascopeincindy@gmail.com. \nEvent Organizers: A partnership between Sea Scope Inc.\, Earth Charter Indiana\, Indiana Conservation Voters\, The Garden Community Church\, and Indy Parks and Recreation. \nRegistration: Click here to register for the Nov. 16 river clean up. \nCommunity Forum Details (Nov. 9): See Nov. 9 event. \nRiver Clean Up Details (Nov. 16): Dress for the weather – with sturdy shoes and work gloves – for the clean-up. Additional details will be provided upon registration.
