Spirit & Place Festival

The Spirit & Place Festival celebrates, explores, challenges, and provides time for reflection on a common theme every November. In its 26th year, the festival continues to highlight the power of collaboration through independently organized events that use the arts, religion, and/or humanities as tools for shaping individual and community life. The festival is 11 days long and event partners, formats, and locations change with each offering.

2021 Application Guidelines -- download here!
Spirit & Place invites those with an event idea they would like to create for the festival to carefully read through the applications guidelines first. Spirit & Place welcomes organizations (big & small), as well as independent artists, public humanities scholars, and people of faith to consider applying. First time applicants are strongly encouraged to reach out to Spirit & Place at festival@iupui.edu or (317) 274-2462 to learn more. (Please leave a voicemail. Due to the pandemic, our offices are closed and we continue to work from home. Voicemail is checked daily.)

Event Calendar & Guide
We invite you to download a 2020 event calendar and Event Guide as way to learn about past festival offerings. By continuing to scroll down, you will also find our complete line-up of 2020's events. Click on event titles to learn more and to watch any events that were recorded.

Should I RSVP to an event? Will events be filmed?
The 2020 Festival was largely virtual and required RSVPs. Fortunately, many events were filmed. Click on the title you are interested in to see if a video link is available.

Are the events accessible?
We welcome people of all abilities to participate in Spirit & Place Festival events. Download a LARGE FONT (text-only) copy of the event guide here.

For questions about accessibility or to discuss accommodations, please contact event organizers no later than 48 hours prior to an event.

For future (post-pandemic!) reference, most events are free and located in ADA compliant facilities, but a few of our partners operate historic structures and you may need to call ahead to confirm your needs. For questions about accessibility or to discuss accommodations, please contact the event hosts, festival@iupui.edu, or 317-274-2462.
