Presented by musician Colette Abel, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
In this collaborative recital, violinist Colette Abel and friends lead a musical exploration of the origins of three faiths and discover curious overlaps in myths, magic, and legends. Among other works, listeners will be swept away by Biber’s Rosary Sonata “Annunciation,” Augusta Reed Thomas’ “Rumi Setting,” de Falla’s “Pantomime” and Ritual Fire Dance,” and Szymanowski’s "Mythes.”
The concert will debut on Nov. 6 via YouTube, Facebook, and Vimeo. Participants are encouraged to RSVP to receive a program written by Colette Abel on the significance of these musical selections. The recording will be available for viewing beyond Nov. 6.
As a bonus, why not join in for a brief pre-concert Zoom chat between Colette Abel and the ICO’s new Executive Director Dana Stone on Nov. 6 from 12:30 to 1pm? As longtime Spirit & Place partner Colette Abel tells us, “My musical selections outline origins in Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. I will demonstrate how elements in myth, fantasy, and legend have corollaries in the major religions . . . . Spirits, transformations, miracles, love, and good triumphing over evil are themes which frame the program.”
